Solution for silver lines appearing in the product during injection molding

Silver wire, also known as silver grain, silver wire, is mainly caused by the hygroscopic properties of the material, which is a common defect in injection molding products. It appears as a silver white silk streak on the surface of the product along the flow direction. The following are the reasons for the silver line mark defects of the Plastic Products in the injection molding process and the corresponding solutions:

l cause

Air or moisture volatilization in plastic: plastic will absorb the water in the air when storage. If it is not fully dried before injection processing, these residual water will be converted into water vapor during the injection process, thus creating splash marks on the surface of the product.

Different otic plastic mixed decomposition: different kinds of plastic in the injection process may be mixed and decomposition and burning phenomenon, leading to the emergence of silver lines.

Poor exhaust of the mold: unreasonable mold design or poor exhaust, will lead to the plastic filling in the mold gas can not be discharged, thus forming silver lines on the surface of the product.

Improper setting of processing parameters: if the material tube temperature is set too high, the injection speed is too fast, and the injection pressure is too high, the silver lines may lead to the plastic decomposition during the injection process.

Plastic humidity or contains impurities: plastic itself humidity or contains too much recycled material, harmful debris and other impurities, but also easy to produce silver lines.

The flow stagnation time of simple materials is too long, different kinds of materials are easy to produce silver line, such as polystyrene and ABS resin, AS resin, polypropylene and polystyrene and so on should not be mixed.

l Solution

Raw material treatment: ensure that raw materials are fully dried before storage and processing, and use hot air drying hopper and other equipment to remove moisture from raw materials. Raw materials containing impurities should be screened and cleaned.

Mold design optimization: optimize the mold design, increase the exhaust tank or improve the exhaust system, to ensure that the plastic can be discharged smoothly during the filling process.

Adjust the processing parameters: according to the raw material characteristics and product requirements, adjust the material pipe temperature, injection speed, injection pressure and other parameters, to avoid the decomposition of plastic during the injection process.

Use high quality raw materials: select raw material suppliers with stable quality and avoid using raw materials with high humidity or impurities.

Maintenance of the Injection Molding Machine : regularly check the screw, material cylinder and other parts of the Injection molding machine to ensure that they are in good condition and avoid silver lines caused by component wear or failure.

Timely drying: the drying temperature should be 10~15lower than the thermal deformation temperature of the resin. For the more demanding PMMA tree wax series, it needs to be dried at about 75t for 4~6h. Especially in the use of automatic drying hopper, it is necessary to choose a reasonable capacity according to the molding cycle, molding quantity and drying time, and the drying material should be started a few hours before the start of injection.
